Birds and Bees

Wader Count time again. As this one was in the middle of the day with the weather very hot and humid, we were not looking forward to doing it this time round, and did not know what to expect bird wise.

Red-capped Plover (Charadrius ruficapillus)

 Red-necked Stint (Calidris ruficollis)

Bar-tailed Godwit (Limosa lapponica)
Some starting to show colour

1294 birds of 10 species were recorded - Pied Oystercatcher,
Lesser & Greater Sand Plover, Red-capped Plover, Eastern Curlew, Bar-tailed Godwit, Great Knot, Red-necked Stint, Curlew Sandpiper,Gull-billed Tern.

Part of the flock of small waders.

Samphire showing beautiful colour

Bees
Just as we were leaving the wader flats we found this swarm of bees.

For more birds visit Wild Bird Wednesday.

Lovely birds - and bees! The little Red-capped with the wings lifted is beautiful! I need to take a walk out that way soon.

Those bees would keep me from going any further!! Ewwww.

But the birds...gorgeous. I've never seen the red capped before. It's very pretty.

That old tune of 'let me tell you bout the birds and the bees and the flowers and the trees' is running through my mind. :)
Great shots!
That is a lot of birds!!!
Love the bee shot but I'm allergic to their sting so I wouldn't have wanted to get too close just in case.

What a great collection of birds and other wonders of nature (that been nest is amazing and a little scary to me).

And I love that you see so many birds.

Sounds like you had a successful bird count in spite of the heat and humidity.

I have to say I really like waders - but I have not managed to get out much so far this year - better get my skates on!

A good count indeed. I wouldn't want to count the bees though...
