Leaden Flycatcher

The day was cold, bleak and overcast for our latest Wader count. Not many Waders about, only 20 Bar-tailed Godwit and 4 Pied Oystercatcher along with 30 Silver Gull, 3 Gull-billed Tern and 2 Caspian Tern at Norman Point. The bush birds seemed to be more active than the Waders.

Leaden Flycatcher (Female) (Myiagra rubecula)

Not the best day to take photos of birds with the heavy overcast sky, but I thought I would have a go at this Leaden Flycatcher, turned out better than I thought it would.

I'm glad you got something out of your day! Mind you - I did tell you it would be a miserable day for birds!!

Here is a bird I can never observe in my country. According to the information given on Wikipedia, it only lives in Australia, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea!

Well, Neil, you certainly made lemonade out of the lemon you were dealt with. Those are very nice shots of the Leaden Flycatcher.

Flycatchers are among my most favorite passerines and this one is a beauty!

Very tough to get shots of birds against a bright overcast sky light that for sure. I always have to play with those shots, ending up with a really bright background to be able to see the bird's features.

Thanks Mick the birds were OK it was the day itself that was miserable.
Thanks Muge, Bob and Larry it was a case of make do with what you manage to get on the day.

Nice capture of the Leaden Flycatcher. Still sounds like you had a nice birding outing!

...a beautiful bird. It looks like he has a rosy or orangish blush on his neck and chest. It's so hard to shoot up into an overcast grey sky. I tried a few at that angle yesterday, but they ended up black shadows. You did really well with yours.

Making do with what you get, that's my motto.
