Bush Birds.

Took a slight detour on the way home the other day to check what might be on a dam. As we went along the road I saw a flock of small birds land in the long grass, though when I went to find them they were nowhere to be seen. However this Golden-headed Cisticola flew up and landed not far from me. I only managed a couple of shots before it went and hid in the long grass.

Winter Wader Count

While undertaking our wader count some people on motorbikes decided to visit the roost site. You can see by the following photos the damage they caused. We feel that had we not been there at this time just how much more would have been done?

They had to ride past this sign to get to the roost site.

They must have seen us on the flats and thought they had better leave.
Red-capped Plover (Charadrius ruficapillus)
At 14-16cm the Red-capped Plover is not easy to see from a distance. They live and breed on the flats.

Red-browed Finch (Neochmia temporalis)
Came across a small feeding flock of these on the way up to the wader site.
Whistling Kite (Haliastur sphenurus)

Peaceful Dove & Red-browed Finch

What to do when you have a King Tide, and an overcast sky ready to drench you at any minute. Why not go and see what birds are around the Inskip Point area? Thanks Mick for the day out. Beats sitting at home wondering what to do, seeing that we were not going to risk kayaking with the weather the way it was.

Peaceful Dove (Geopelia placida) (striata)

In one of the camping areas this Peaceful Dove was searching amongst the leaf litter for food, while the Red-browed Finch had no trouble finding his.

Little Black Cormorant (Phalacrocorax sulcirostris)

We knew it was going to be a King Tide, but I would like to know who told these Little Black Cormorants to roost this high on the ramp of one of the Vehicular Ferrys that take 4WD vehicles over to Fraser Island?

It seems like everything was going for higher ground including this Goanna. Just as well, as the water had by now reached the camping ground. Normally a peaceful spot to camp.

Even the road to Bullock Point was not safe from the King Tide.

Mixed Birds

A friend suggested we take a trip out to a little place called Oakview North West of Gympie to do some birding with him. This is some of the variety we came across during the afternoon outing. Thanks GP for a great spot of birding.
