During our stay on Stradbroke Island we had the company of these Bush Stone-curlew or Bush Thick-knees around the caravan park we stayed in. There were at least six of them. While there the lady that runs the park told us about a pair of Beach Stone-curlew but we were not lucky enough to see them this time.

Great birds. I thought they are supposed to be shy but its amazing where they decide to live.
ReplyDeleteYes Mick they wandered around in daylight and were calling before dusk. It helps that no dogs or cats are allowed in the park.

ReplyDeleteGreat with their knobby knees and stilt like legs.
ReplyDeleteThanks Arija their legs look very thin for the size of the bird.
ReplyDeleteDuring our recent visit to straddie we were encounter by the famous curlew which e1 seems to love so much, walking down the street one nite on our stay we were attacked by 3 curlews i have never been so scared. Never seen anything like it before and hope never too. The people we were staying with had a good laugh they knew the exact birds, told us about the aboriginal legend & they were harmless. But have been known to attack cars..... The scariest thing ever to met in the dark in a strange place.... I have only 1 phobia and its new....BIRDS...lol
