Tin Can Bay - Cooloola Cove.

Just a selection of birds we came across during a recent wader count at Tin Can Bay and Cooloola Cove, not all that many in number as we are waiting for the waders to return from their Northern breeding grounds. Not too much longer to wait.

Caspian Tern (Hydroprogne caspia)

Pacific Golden Plover (Pluvialis fulva)

Silver Gull (Chroicocephalus novaehollandiae)

As we were walking back from the count site we came across a fever of stingrays feeding close inshore. We do not normally see this many, there must have been a lot of food for them in this particular area.

    The Caspian Tern is beautiful with that very dark cap. I don't like the stingrays so much! Glad I wasn't having to walk among them to get the count done.

    Great shots of the birds Neil. I especially like the Silver Gull. Incredible eyes.

    The photos of the stingrays were extra special too. Very cool. I would love to see those.

    Caspians are very nice with their big red beak. I'd love to stingrays one day - maybe not on a birding trip where I always look skywards...

    Thanks Dreamfalcon the bill on the Caspian does stand out we don't see that many of them up this way so they are easy to spot when we do.
