Whistling-Duck & Jacana

Went for a quick drive to check out one of the local waterholes today and found this flock of Plumed Whistling-Duck.

Plumed Whistling-Duck (Dendrocygna eytoni)

Comb-crested Jacana (Irediparra gallinacea)

You can almost always find Comb-crested Jacana at this spot, even though they might be on the other side of the water like this one was.

  1. Well spotted with that jacana! I know they're around but they always seem to hide when I go looking for them.

  4. Nice to have a reliable spot for birds nearby, and great fun to see what runs around loose elsewhere in the world.

  6. it is a bit hard to see what the Comb-crested Jacana look like, but it seems similar to our Grebe.

The Plumed Whistling-Duck looks very nice. It does not visit us. Too bad, I would like it.

  8. Thanks NatureFootstep the Jacana is sometimes called a Lily Trotter because its long toes enable it to walk on the waterlily pads.
Thanks Larry the wing feathers do stand out.
