We saw a family of White-winged Chough a while ago. We don't see many around our area. These ones were beside the road at Widgee west of Gympie. Although they look similar to Crows and Currawongs in appearance, they belong to a different family, the only other member being the Apostlebird. They are mud nest builders.

Not sure what is wrong with the one on the right, but it looks like it has been attacked and has an injury to it's head.

It does remind me of our crows. The white stripe gives some interest to the otherwise overall blackness of the feathers which is nice.
Looks like quite an injury to the one. Hope it made it.

The wing stripe is a bit similar to our red winged blackbirds before they spread their wings and the red actually shows up.
These birds look very large!! Are they? Hope the injury isn't too serious.

This is a new be for me. Apostle birds I have seen at Carnarvon Gorge and White Cliffs.
The Chouch looks similar to our black birds and crows here in the US. Australia has such interesting birds.

Agree with Carletta that the touch of white on today's entry makes this bird more interesting than other crow-like birds.

Interesting species. We just have the Common Chough in the UK.

My understanding is this bird is not really the same species as the European Chough?
They do look a bit like crows, don't they? How interesting they use mud to build their nests.
They look like very interesting birds. I do wonder why the feathers are missing on that one's head.
