After hearing about the rare Freckled Duck at Lake MacDonald, Cooroy, on the Sunshine Coast, we decided to try and find them. After our first unsuccessful attempt last month, we thought we would try again. This time we were lucky enough to see four Freckled Duck, and as an added bonus, a Comb-crested Jacana appeared right in front of us.

I've never heard of a freckled duck before! Love all your birds photos.
ReplyDeleteA great series of photos. I'm glad you found your ducks and got great photos as well but for me the Jacana is the best! I love those huge feet!
ReplyDeleteIt's really neat the way the jacanas look as if they're tiptoeing over the lily pads.
ReplyDeleteThey are new (even in pictures) to me as is the freckled duck....glad you found what you went for and more wonderful birds besides. And very glad you shared them.
the ducks are handsome - all of your birds are unique!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your sightings! The ducks are cute and I love the Jacana. Great photos!
ReplyDeleteGreat finds!! Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.
ReplyDeleteThe jacanas crack me up--they look like they're perched on tripods! And as if a duck needs help in being cute. Just make them speckled. Good finds.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a special day out Neil. Never heard of Freckled Duck until now. Great pics of the jacana lily trotting.
ReplyDeleteNice shots of the Darter.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots of birds. I like the way it is walking on the leaves.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos! I'm glad you found the duck and got some great shots.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a good year for Freckled duck in Victoria also. I saw my first earlier in the year too!
ReplyDeleteAll bird photos are great.
ReplyDeleteGreetings Irma
Congrats on finding the ducks and getting such nice photos! And, I LOVE those huge, oversized feet on the Jacana. Really cool that you caught it in action so we can see how it uses them to walk across the lily pads.
ReplyDeleteYour coots a quite a bit different than those here in America. I enjoyed the freckled ducks.
ReplyDeleteYour images, Mick, are super.
Wonderful captures!
ReplyDeleteGreat series of photos, such wonderful birds! Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteIt's a treat to see your "exotic-to-my-eyes" birds. Freckled ducks, eh? I ;ove it when my husband and I make a special journey to see a certain bird and then we actually do find it!
ReplyDeleteIt is always fun to get lots of duck shots. In and out of a row.
ReplyDeleteThose are very interesting finds!
ReplyDeleteThey are great looking ducks - once you get to know the "pointy head" look to then you can often find them - if that are there in the first place that is!
ReplyDeleteCheers and thanks for linking to WBW
