Lake Alford

What to do on a cold and bleak day, stay home or go out to the local Duck ponds?
Thanks Mick for coming all that way to look and hopefully get photos on a day like today.

Pacific Black Duck (Anas superciliosa)
Hardhead (Aythya australis) (Male)
Hardhead (Female)
Azure Kingfisher (Ceyx azureus)

Comb-crested Jacana (Metopidius gallinacea) (Immature)

Will have to try again when the sun decides to shine.

Great birds, sorry the weather wasn't better. I love the Kingfisher and the Jacana.

I think it's much more fun to go out. :)
Lovely seeing your series of birds I don't get to see!

They were great shots - in spite of the weather!

Hi there - looks like a great place. I have a certain fondness for ducks; I think they are great birds. "Hardhead" has to be one of the most baffling common names mind you!

Cheers - Stewart M

Great shots, even with poor light. I love the Hardhead ducks. I've only seen one at the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens. I managed to capture a few Comb-crested Jacanas at bribie Island bird hide a few weeks back (I posted them for WBW).
Looks like a trip up your way might be in order as I've never seen a Kingfisher!!
