Straddie Birds and Boat

With less than ideal weather of late for Birdwatching or Photographing them it is time to go back over what photos I have that are on standby for times like this.

All these photos were taken while on Stradbroke Island in February this year. The Crested Tern were taken on Main Beach and the Double-banded Plover, Ruddy Turnstone and Red-necked Stint were taken on Flinders Beach which is sheltered from the strong wind.

Crested Tern (Sterna bergii)

Double-banded Plover (Charadrius bicinctus)

Ruddy Turnstone (Arenaria interpres) Red-necked Stint (Calidris ruficollis)

The photo of the Sailing Boat is to show you how rough it was. We measured 40km winds on Main Beach, not the best conditions for counting birds and very hard to take photos as well.

Glad I was on the beach and not out at sea.

...these are great photos to have to have waiting in the wings! I love in the first photo how all the terns are facing into the wind, but that one bird dares to be different!

Thanks Kelly as they say there is one in every crowd.

Nice photos - and Straddie sounds wonderful!

Straddie is very nice and the best part is not knowing what you will find next time.

Here are some you prepared earlier!

Weather's been a bit rough all over the state lately. Still, it makes you appreciate the calm moments in between.

That's the cutest little plover! and some rough seas - enough to make you seasick standing on shore looking at them.

Thanks Snail & Wren I was not looking forward to the ferry crossing after seeing how rough it was but it calmed down a lot before we left.

Awesome shots of the Crested Terns Neil and the Double-banded Plover is about the cutest thing I've ever seen!

Thanks for throwing in the shots of the schooner too. It looks pretty rough out there all right. What a beautiful vessel.
