White-headed Pigeon

White-headed Pigeon have been calling around our place for the last couple of days. After I came home yesterday three flew onto the wires and stayed long enough for me to take some photos. It was not the best light for photos as we have been having a lot of rain around.

...a beautiful bird! I've never seen one before. I love the second shot. I'm always a sucker for head-on shots.

Wow- interesting bird. Is it common like the Rock Dove?

Neil said...

The Rock Dove is an introduced species found and often common in urban situations.

The White-headed Pigeon is a reasonably common native species, often flocking to feed on the fruits of the introduced Camphor Laurel in urban areas and along waterways in bush-land.

A rather striking bird Neil. Those bright pink feet and the big yellow eyes. Cool shots!
